Ready to turn random practice sessions into a personalised roadmap that actually lowers your scores? Here’s how to know if Break X Golf will work for you…
As a golf coach, I’ve been building personalised practice plans for amateur and professional golfers for just over 15 years now. However, this service wasn’t widely available, it took me 2-3 hours to work through players’ stats and then build them a personalised plan. Golfers found these plans super useful, but it was expensive and time-consuming. This was the genesis behind building Break X Golf – to make this process quick, affordable, more fun and available to all golfers!
So the big question is: is this right for you, and will you gain the benefits you are looking for?
At the time of writing, Break X Golf has just turned 2 years old (and last year was our first full golf season). We’ve already had some great success stories that I’ll share later on, but here is what we’ve learned from watching golfers improve to date.
Who gets the most out of Break X Golf?
Our core members to date are golfers who:
- Keep some playing stats (basic stats or strokes gained data)
- Want to shoot lower scores / reduce their handicap
- Practice 2+ hours a week
- Realise there is more to shooting lower scores than just technique
If this sounds like you, we’re pretty sure you’ll have a great experience. Once golfers have been up and running for 3-4 weeks and have completed a few plans, their feedback tends to be:
- I love that I have a clear plan for practice
- I used to find practice boring, but now it is fun
- It’s great to see myself improve in practice and know I’m on the right track
Golfers particularly love that every plan can be built to suit your time constraints (1, 2, 3 up to 35 hours/week of practice time), making it great for golfers short on time or those with lots of time, but little idea how to practice.
If that’s enough to convince you, feel free to sign up for a free, no-risk, 7-day trial here.
Will I See Instant Results?
We’re here to help you find the fastest ways to shoot lower scores, not sell you a ‘magic pill‘. Some golfers see big jumps after just one week’s plan, but most start to see results in practice performance after 2-4 weeks, and results on the golf course after 2-8 weeks.
Just like Ethan, who reached out to us after a few weeks of using the app:
“I have been using the app for about 5-6 weeks now and my handicap has dropped from 6.6 to 4.7 and I’m certain it will drop further if I continue to use it. I love the structure it has given me as well as the variety of drills and games. It’s also given me real confidence that the drills I’m doing are working and are reflected in my improved scoring, helping me love the game as I did back in uni. You’ve created a fantastic product I have been and will continue to recommend to any golfers that are looking to improve.”
The key is to complete as many tasks from your plan each week and really focus on getting the highest scores possible on each challenge.
How much can golfers improve with this approach?
Break X Golf still requires you to practice, but it helps you practice the right things and helps you practice more effectively and with clear feedback.
One of our best stories to date is a golfer called Lee, living in Germany, who joined as a 54 handicapper. He made it down to a 16 handicap in 14 months! He had monthly golf lessons, kept basic playing stats and worked his way through his Break X Golf plan every week.
Lee is now between a 16 and 22-handicap, still working hard and looking for his next breakthrough in scoring (progress in golf isn’t linear). So, Break X Golf works well for higher-handicap golfers.
Our standout story so far is a golfer called Andrew in the USA. His coach, Connor, paid for his subscription while coaching Andrew on technique. Andrew progressed from a 22 handicap to a 4 handicap in just 18 months! Connor is a great coach, but by his own admission, he just kept Andrews’ basics (grip, posture and alignment) in order and let him practice.
This is an exceptional story, and hats off to Andrew for putting in the work.
Does Break X Golf replace my golf coach?
Break X Golf doesn’t replace your swing coach – it makes your golf lessons more effective. Our app identifies exactly which areas are costing you the most strokes, so you can walk into your next lesson and say “I need help with my approach shots” instead of generic “help me get better.” Many of our most improved players combine monthly lessons with Break X Golf practice plans.
If you are a golf coach, we now have a full setup for coaches, schools and colleges who want to run Break X Golf with their players. You can learn more here.
What if I don’t have playing stats?
No problem. We’re launching our integrated playing stats system this summer that makes tracking effortless – just tap on the map where your ball lands and get powerful insights and instantly personalised practice plans.
Until then, you can start with basic stats (fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts per round), try out our free strokes gained calculator or even self-assessment. Our new self-assessment onboarding flow for players without detailed stats goes live mid-June 2025.
We are currently looking for beta testers for our playing stats app, so if you want to join and help us shape this product, just drop us an email here with your name, email (for Apple Store or Play Store) and if you have an iPhone or Android.
As Break X Golf continues to develop ,you will still be able to enter your data from other apps on the market like Arcoss, UpGame, Shot Scope, Hole 19 etc, but we will be able to take practice and performance insights to the next level with our inbuilt system.
pros & elite amateurs
Word seems to be getting around, and we’re delighted to now have a few plus handicap golfers and golf pros using Break X Golf. This is the group of golfers I’ve worked with most over the past 10 years, so I know how important a focused plan is for finding those 1-3% improvements in scoring. And if you fall into this group, you’ll be well aware that practising 15+ hours a week doesn’t guarantee you’ll get better…
The app works really well for this cohort, but I recommend some tweaks at the start so we can get you on some tougher challenges straight away. If this sounds like you, just drop me a message and I’ll help you get set up.
What Does The App Not Do?
We want to be honest with what Break X Golf is great at and what it doesn’t offer. So here is a quick checklist of who is best heading elsewhere for improving their golf game.
Technical corrections & golf drills
If you are seeking technical answers for why you are hitting a certain shot, find a local PGA coach. Our app suggests how much time you should work on your technique and what areas of your game to focus on, but we don’t offer technical advice within the app, just awesome skills games and great data.
Limited practice time & facilities
You can filter our 140+ skills games by game area and facility. Meaning you can customise your plans for snowy winters in the golf sim and practice in the house. Or quickly find more putting drills for a summer’s day outside on the putting green. But if you don’t have access to any practice facilities (putting green, chipping green, golf range or golf simulator), you won’t get the full benefits from your plans.
In the same vein, we see that golfers who 1+ hours a week love this app, particularly those who are short of time and want to improve. But if you go 4-6 weeks without any practice time you may want to focus more on a great playing stats app (which will be part of Break X Golf very soon).
I hope that has helped you understand if Break X Golf is right for you. If you have any questions, just reach out to us, it is still me, Adam and Jorge building everything and answering every email that comes in. So we’re here to help and love to hear how you are getting on.
You can start your 7-day free trial here and have your first personalised practice plan in under 5 minutes.
